Memphis, TN – June 11, 2025
UrbanArt Commission (UAC), in partnership with the City of Memphis and the Georgette & Cato Johnson YMCA, is proud to announce the ribbon-cutting ceremony for a new public sculpture created by Memphis-based artist Lorenzo Scruggs.
The celebration will take place on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at 10:00 AM at the Georgette & Cato Johnson YMCA, located at 4727 Elvis Presley Blvd, Memphis, TN 38116.
Commissioned through UAC’s public art program, this dynamic sculpture was designed to reflect the vibrancy, resilience, and cultural pride of the Whitehaven community. Scruggs’ work stands as a bold new landmark and a symbol of artistic investment in one of Memphis' most iconic neighborhoods.
The event is free and open to the public. Community members, local leaders, and art supporters are encouraged to attend and help commemorate this milestone for Whitehaven and Memphis public art.
