INTUNITY HOMES RECEIVES THDA CAPACITY BUILDING GRANT

Intunity Homes recently received a capacity building grant from the Tennessee Housing Development Agency (THDA). This grant will support strategic planning and growth for the West Tennessee-based nonprofit focused on providing affordable housing for persons with disabilities and older adults.

“We’re so grateful for our partnership with THDA,” says Earle Schwarz, executive director of Intunity Homes. “Their support helps fuel the foundational principle of our work: that better homes lead to better lives.”

Intunity’s vision is to enhance the quality of life for people with intellectual, physical and/or developmental disabilities by providing exceptional housing in comfortable neighborhoods at below-market rental rates. The nonprofit currently owns 26 homes in Shelby County, 14 homes in Madison County and serves a tenant population of approximately 70 individuals. In 2023, Intunity’s board of directors adopted a new strategic plan calling for the nonprofit to shift from purchasing existing homes to designing and building new homes with the goal of increasing Intunity’s tenant population to at least 100 persons. As such, Intunity will own and maintain single-family homes that are designed to accommodate the special needs of physically and/or intellectually challenged individuals; are energy efficient and technology rich.

“Funding such as the generous grant from THDA will help us build durable homes that allow for optimal efficiency, minimal maintenance needs and a greater sense of independence for valued residents,” says Schwarz.
